“LEARNING TORAH, BEING TORAH”

TorahAll of us, not just our children, are students of Torah. We adults belong to a learning community where shared experiences can enrich our lives and strengthen our Jewish identity. The rabbis seek to teach a variety of topics to meet the diverse interests of our members. Here’s a sampling of courses: Talmud, ethics (“The Good, Bad and The Difference”), Torah study, the history of modern Israel, the story of Reform Judaism, Islam, Jewish women in the Bible, life cycle customs, prayerbook Hebrew, modern Jewish thought and archeology. Occasionally, the religious school sponsors professors from the Baltimore-Washington area who will teach our students and parents on Sunday morning.

Scholar in Residence Program

A personal opportunity to engage leading scholars and thinkers. More than a lecture, this program was devised to enable congregants to literally “rub shoulders” with scholars whose research and writings are shaping our understanding of the past and present. A beautiful Shabbat dinner and luncheon facilitate a warm atmosphere of exploring and learning. Topics have been very diverse including: “Islamic Fundamentalism and Terrorism,” “The Jews of the Italian Renaissance," Bibliodrama, “Religious Pluralism in Israel,” “Resurrection and Immortality in Jewish Thought,” “Confronting the Abyss-The Holocaust,” “The Jews of Eastern Europe.”
